Josh O'Connor sets Hibs target after debut 'nudge' from captain Paul Hanlon

Josh O’Connor is targeting more Hibs first team appearances between now and the end of the season.

The striker was introduced Shaun Maloney during their 3-1 Premiership defeat to Aberdeen.

O’Connor is now following in dad Garry's footsteps by breaking into the first team.

There's a way to go before he's scoring with the same regularity at the top level.

But O'Connor junior is only focused on playing more minutes after receiving some pre-debut advice from Easter Road skipper Paul Hanlon.

With Kevin Nisbet out for around nine months with a knee injury, there could be a few more opportunities for O’Connor between now and the end of the season.

He told the club website: "Having grown up a Hibs fan for all my life, it meant the world to me to step out onto the pitch for the first time. It was an amazing feeling for me and made all the hard work so far worthwhile.

"My family were in the crowd watching as well. They go to all the away games so it was a very special feeling to make my debut in front of them.

“I got a wee nudge from Paul Hanlon and he said to me, ‘if you get on, just make sure you put everything into it'.

"Everything was running through my mind, all the situations that could happen but I just tried to stay focussed and give it my best effort."

“Now it is time to kick on and try and get some more game time. I need to keep showing the gaffer that I am able, that I can go on the pitch and I can create chances and score goals."
