Josh Doig has said his goodbyes to Hibs as he prepares to complete a £3million-plus move to Serie A side Hellas Verona. The 20-year-old will not play in the opening Premier Sports Cup clash against Clyde in anticipation of his big-money switch to Italy.
Hibs sources have confirmed the Scotland Under-21 defender is expected to travel to Verona in the coming days to discuss personal terms after the clubs agreed a seven-figure transfer fee plus add-ons. Doig’s attracted interest from Premier League clubs and teams abroad since making his first-team breakthrough at Hibs in 2020 after an impressive loan spell at Queen’s Park.
The 19-year-old also attracted interest from English Premier League clubs Arsenal, Leeds and Watford last summer but remained in Leith and in November signed a new Hibs deal that runs until the summer of 2026. The left-back was signed by the Easter Road club after being released by rivals Hearts and, speaking days ago, Hibs boss Lee Johnson admitted: “Everyone has a price.”
Serie A sides Sassuolo and Bologna have also been linked with an approach this summer. Aaron Hickey is set to depart Bologna for Brentford.
