Josh Doig in post Hibs joy as 'amazing' emotion of first Serie A goal at Hellas Verona explained

Josh Doig says his first goal for Hellas Verona won't be one he forgets in a hurry as he enjoys a positive start to life after Hibs.

The Scotland youth international was making his maiden domestic start for his new club against Sampdoria and scored the winner in a 2-1 Serie A victory. It makes him the second Scottish player ever to score in the division with Verona after Joe Jordan and the youngest foreign scorer in the Italian top flight so far this season.

Hibs banked millions from selling him to the Italian club in the summer and the former Easter Road player has vowed to keep his feet on the ground despite his first three matches bringing a goal and an assist ahead of a trip to Lazio. Doig said: "It was amazing and still hasn't quite sunk in. I'm still in disbelief. I'm happy to have been able to help the team in this way.

"I wasn't expecting to score but what a bonus for myself. I feel amazing. It was a bit of a slow start but with the team we have, it's so strong.

"It's important now that we keep going. One win is good but the games come very fast and there is a hard game next week.

"We rest now and then training is all focused towards that game (against Lazio)."
