Celtic hero Peter Grant has questioned why his former club didn't make a move for Scotland youth international Josh Doig this summer.
The left-back made a move to Serie A club Hellas Verona earlier this month after two full seasons on the senior scene at fellow Premiership club Hibs. A fee of around £3 million-plus was what the Italian club paid for Doig as Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou bolstered that department with Argentine player Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus, already possessing Greg Taylor as an option
Doig was once reportedly on the Celtic radar and Grant can't see why they didn't make a move for him at the price Hellas Verona got him for. He told Go Radio: "I have been scratching my head as Doig was allowed to go to Italy. I thought he would have been an ideal Celtic player, I really do. I saw him as a youngster and I followed him closely.

"He's got better and better and there are things still to work on in his game. Greg has done tremendously well but I think it would have been great to see another Scotsman in there.
"I don't think the fee paid in Italy was massive. It's the money Celtic could have afforded and he is proven in the league. He's only going to get better and would have improved under the manager."
Postecoglou has also signed Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Moritz Jenz and Aaron Mooy ahead of Sunday's league opener at Parkhead against Aberdeen.
