Josh Dobbs reveals Cardinals’ Jonathan Gannon told him he wasn’t getting traded until he was

If you thought Josh Dobbs was wildly good in his first Vikings game, this new information makes it way more impressive.

On November 5, Josh Dobbs made his debut for the Minnesota Vikings after Jaren Hall, who was supposed to be stepping in for an injured Kirk Cousins, also could not play due to injury. Dobbs had only been with the team for less than a week and didn’t know the entire playbook, but he overcame a substantial fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons — truly gutsy stuff.

Dobbs was recently asked about that whirlwind performance, and he revealed to Fox 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul that he didn’t expect to leave Arizona because head coach Jonathan Gannon told him he wouldn’t be.

According to Dobbs, Gannon said he would start when the Arizona Cardinals played the Cleveland Browns in Week 9. However, the Cardinals’ head coach privately called Dobbs into his office shortly after that conversation and told him that rookie Clayton Tune would instead be starting.

During that exchange, Dobbs reveals that Gannon also told him, “You’re not getting traded. You’re not being released. You’re going to be here in Arizona.”

But, just 36 hours later, Dobbs was shipped out to Minnesota. Yikes.

Dobbs seems to be taking everything in stride, but if things happened as Dobbs says they did, this is not a great look for the Cardinals.
