Josh Cavallo: First openly gay footballer claims homophobia 'kept me on the bench'

Football’s first openly gay male player Josh Cavallo has alleged that he left former club Adelaide United due to ‘internal homophobia’.

Cavallo came out publicly in 2021, saying at the time that he wanted to show “others who identify as LGBTQ+ that they are welcome in the football community.”
