Josh Barrie On the Sauce at Bloodsports: a neon-lit homage to the American dive bar

The former Everton boss Sean Dyche is having a pint at the far end of the bar. I hear he was googling himself moments before to show his pal, Vicky McClure’s husband, his Premier League managerial record. Over by the pool table is the owner of Andanza, the brilliant Basque-inspired restaurant in Bermondsey. I’m just sad Joe Lycett didn’t move from the Cross Keys, that glorious little thespians’ pub with model bartenders, over here. I think he’d like all the leopard print.

Over here, by the way, is Bloodsports, Scott Collins’s new homage to American dive bars. It’s a neon-lit den 10 years in the making, with alcoholic slushies and Chicago-style hotdogs. There are TV screens everywhere showing just about every sport going, from Afghan dog racing to wrestling, and in the far corner is a photobooth inspired by the slasher film Psycho.
