Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Morocco's 'incredible' World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi amid reports that the midfielder is on Leeds United's radar.
The 22-year-old has been one of the breakout stars in Qatar as he helped Morocco become the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
Morocco eliminated Spain and Portugal respectively during the knockout stages, and also beat Belgium in the group stages. However, their remarkable run ended as defending champions France ran out 2-0 winners in the semi-final on Wednesday.
Victor Orta has revealed that he has received messages from Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani about Ounahi, who was only playing in the third-tier of French football just 18 months ago.
Ounahi has received a number of plaudits at the tournament, and Mourinho has been especially impressed by the Angers midfielder.
“They [Morocco] have individuals," Mourinho revealed to ENDM. "Yassine Bounou was an individual during the competition and in this game was the same;
"Sofyan Amrabat, I know him from Italian football, very good player. But their No. 8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi was absolutely incredible. So, they have players, a coach and an incredible spirit."
Ounahi arrived in France from his native Morocco in 2018 and joined up with Strasbourg. He spent his two years at the club plying his trade in the 'B' team, and dropped down into the third-tier at Avranches in 2020.
After scoring five goals in 28 games during his solitary campaign at Avranches, Ounahi was handed a chance in the top-flight at Angers. He scored twice in 33 outings for Angers last term, and has been an ever-present once again this season, amassing 14 appearances in total.
