Jose Mourinho breaks silence after making bold decision over Chelsea manager return approach

Jose Mourinho has addressed reports that he rejected Chelsea's approach for him to return as manager for a third stint at Stamford Bridge. The Roma boss enjoyed two successful spells with the Blues in which he won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups.

Todd Boehly has sacked two managers this season after dismissing Graham Potter just six months after he replaced Thomas Tuchel. Frank Lampard is now acting as caretaker manager until the end of the season, picking up his first three points with a win against Bournemouth at the weekend after a run of six straight defeats.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to land the Blues head coach position ahead of next season after Julian Nagelsmann withdrew himself from the running. football.london understands Pochettino has held positive talks with Chelsea despite no agreement being reached.

Reports have suggested Boehly will make a final decision on Chelsea's next managerial appointment this week with Pochettino expected to be appointed. Mourinho has been approached by the Blues and has now left the door open to a potential summer exit from the Italian giants.

"I don’t talk to friends, comrades, journalists," Mourinho replied when asked about his future. "If a few months ago our CEO [Pietro] Berardi said he was sure I would stay, that is his interpretation.

"If this time Mr. Zazzaroni [a journalist] said what he said is an interpretation of him, I’m not talking to anyone. The situation is clear, from a contractual point of view I still have one year on my contract.

"Football is football, sometimes contracts aren’t the most important thing. All good, all calm, the next one is always the most important game.," the Portuguese boss added.
