Joao Santos, the agent of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, has admitted the player’s “priority” is to stay at Stamford Bridge and revealed talks over his future will start in September.
The Italian international has entered the final year of his contract in west London and will be able to talk to foreign clubs in January as things stand.
While the 30-year-old remains a key figure under Thomas Tuchel, making 47 appearances across all competitions last season, there is a recent precedent in Chelsea losing key players for free.
Clearly, the sanctions imposed on former owner Roman Abramovich will not have helped, but both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger were allowed to run their contracts down before sealing big moves away.
Santos has previously revealed a return to Serie A is a “dream” for Jorginho, even going as far as to name AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, Roma and former club Napoli as the teams his client could play for.
Still, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Santos revealed: “Chelsea are the priority. The contract will expire in 2023, I think we will talk about the renewal from September.”
