Jorginho's agent gives update on Arsenal star's future amid huge Declan Rice transfer bid

Jorginho wants to remain at Arsenal despite their interest in Declan Rice claims the Italian's agent.

The midfielder only moved to the Gunners in January as they looked to bolster their ranks ahead of the title race, before they ultimately came unstuck. Jorginho left Chelsea to move to the Emirates but was always going to be a squad player with Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Swiss star is set to leave with his team-mate potentially following him out the door. As a result Mikel Arteta is seeking reinforcements and could spend more than £100m on Declan Rice whilst they could also reignite their interest in Moises Caicedo.

It has led to speculation regarding Jorginho's future as Lazio reportedly consider bringing him back to Serie A. His agent, Joao Santos, is adamant however that his Euro 2020 winner will remain in north London and is convinced Arsenal can go on to win the top flight.

He told Italy’s TV Play: "Jorginho is very happy with Arsenal who have a very important championship to play, at the beginning of August there is the Community Shield. There is no negotiation with Lazio. I don’t know if they have the money to pay the player, but that’s not the question."

Santos also added: "He stays really well at Arsenal and in our mind, for the next season, there is only the Gunners. The theme is clear: the project for next year is to stay at Arsenal which can become the most important team in England ‘Coach Arteta is the most important in the Premier League, he understands modern football like no-one else and, obviously, someone like Jorginho goes very well with someone like him."

The Italian started nine times in the league last term for the Gunners, making a further five appearances from the bench. Despite their collapse there is plenty of optimism that Arsenal can build on their second-place finish last term.

Arteta will also have to prepare for a return to the Champions League, where Jorginho's experience could prove a huge asset. The former Chelsea man won the competition back in 2021 whilst at Stamford Bridge and can aid a young group, many of whom have never played in Europe's top competition.

Jorginho is set to be joined by another former Blue with Kai Havertz set to cross London in a £65m deal. The German has been in west London for three years but is set to become the first of Arsenal's marquee signings this summer.
