Jorginho and Enzo Fernandez hypocrisy claims made as Arsenal and Chelsea transfers questioned

The transfer domino effect is a common theme prevalent in most trading periods whereby a player leaving one club to join another opens the door for the selling club to bring in a replacement. In the January transfer window that label could certainly be placed on Chelsea and Arsenal dealings involving Jorginho and Enzo Fernandez.

Both clubs desperately wanted a new midfielder in January, with Moises Caicedo the recipient of offers from Arsenal and Chelsea. Brighton stood firm though insisting he was not up for sale despite the players own plea to help the club make their record transfer sale.

Deadline day very quickly arrived with the Gunners turning their attention to Jorginho and the Blues edging closer to signing Enzo Fernandez. Both moves went through and each player has endured a mixed start at their new teams, respectively.

Jorginho saw his cameo debut for Arsenal in the defeat to Everton slammed before being an unused substitute in the draw to Brentford. An injury to Thomas Partey saw the Italian make his first Premier League start for the Gunners in arguably their biggest fixture of the season so far against Manchester City.

Despite their Premier League title rivals winning, Jorginho impressed under the lights at Emirates Stadium more than proving he is capable of filling that role in the absence of Partey if needed.

On the other side of London, Fernandez's quality has been evident since he arrived for the British record transfer fee. The midfielder grabbed his first goal contribution over the weekend against West Ham with a delightful lofted ball that was converted by Joao Felix.

In his first Champions League appearance though Fernandez had a role to play in Borussia Dortmund's goal. In the second half, the German outfit hit the Blues on the counter with Karim Adeyemi faced by Fernandez. The young forward jinked inside and out before simply sprinting past the Argentine as if he wasn't even there before rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga and scoring.

Contrasting fortunes for the two midfielders yesterday who captured the headlines on deadline day has seen social media explode into arguments. While Jorginho was at the centre of a similar goal faced by Fernandez in a game against Manchester United that Chelsea fans certainly haven't forgotten about. Meanwhile, those of an Arsenal persuasion are seemingly blaming Chelsea for their recent poor form.

@iDanDizzy - Since Jorginho came to my club we’ve been going downhill, Pls arsenal stop signing chelsea rejects!!

@Dennislerizzy - Chelsea should never have let jorginho leave...that guy is so composed in that defense midfield

@Chukky_Alozie - We bought another bad luck from chelsea. It’s no coincidence that our worst form always come when we buy Chelsea players. 4 games lost since Jorginho signed a paper

@ChelseaRozay - Agent jorginho in full force

@sochimuoneke - If a player cooked Jorginho the way Adeyemi cooked Enzo yesterday, Chelsea fans won’t let him rest.

@OllyofLagos - Adeyemi dribbled right past Enzo Fernández like he was not there.

@Sandaah17 - Enzo Fernández is just a different more expensive version of jorginho btw.

@davidon_usifo - What they did to Enzo Fernandez is not good. Man looked like Jorginho for that goal.
