Jordan Love leads game-winning drive, Packers survive shootout with Panthers

The Green Bay Packers gave up a 30-16 lead in the fourth quarter but quarterback Jordan Love led a game-winning field goal drive to help Matt LaFleur’s team escape Charlotte with a thrilling 33-30 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

Love threw a pair of touchdown passes, including an 8-yard score to Romeo Doubs that gave the Packers a 14-point lead to open the fourth quarter. But Bryce Young led the Panthers on a pair of late scoring drives, and it took two big completions from Love — one to Romeo Doubs on third down, and another to Tucker Kraft — to set up Anders Carlson’s go-ahead 32-yard field goal with 19 seconds left.

The Packers scored on their first four possessions and held leads of 7-0, 13-3 and 23-10 in the first half.

Love finished the contest completing 17 of 28 passes for 219 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers. His passer rating was 109.1.

Running back Aaron Jones ran for a season-high 127 yards, Doubs caught four passes for 79 yards, Kraft and Bo Melton both caught four passes and Dontayvion Wicks caught a 21-yard touchdown pass.

Joe Barry’s defense gave up 30 points and Young’s first career 300-yard passing game.

Late in the game, the Panthers challenged Doubs’ 36-yard catch on third down, but the call on the field — a catch — stood. On Carolina’s final possession, Young’s spike following a catch by Adam Thielen wasn’t completed by the time the clock hit zeroes.

The Packers improved to 7-8 and kept alive their playoff chances entering the final two weeks. LaFleur’s team will go back on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings — who are also 7-8 — next Sunday night. The Panthers dropped to 2-13.
