Jordan Henderson and Gabriel have both presented their side of the story after a bust-up during Arsenal's victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Referee Michael Oliver requested to speak to the pair to get their version of events after Sunday's match and has now sent his report to the Football Association. The FA have confirmed they are looking into the incident in the dying stages of Arsenal’s 3-2 win.
The Mirror report that Arsenal defender Gabriel has complained he heard something on the pitch which prompted an angry confrontation with the Liverpool and England midfielder.
It came after a controversial penalty was awarded to Arsenal, with both sets of players being involved in a melee following that. It is then that Gabriel insists he heard something was said. Oliver then went over to the touchline and spoke to both managers, Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp, to tell them a complaint had been made.
The report adds that witnesses said afterwards the situation had calmed down in the tunnel area. Henderson was due to do post-match interviews after the game in his role as club captain but was stood down amid the storm.
The FA have said they will “review the details” - which include Oliver’s report - before deciding whether to pursue it any further. Arsenal boss Arteta has already seemed to suggest that anything said on the pitch “should stay on the pitch.”
Both players are believed to have given their side to Oliver in the referees’ room, while the managers are understood to have offered their versions of events as well. Klopp refused to speak about the incident afterwards and all parties have refused to comment further.
