Jonnie Irwin's wife Jessica had made a heartbreaking admission over the couple's sons knowing that the terminally ill Place in the Sun presenter 'needs to rest,' after he revealed that he has already bought their 18th birthday presents.
Popular TV presenter Jonnie, star of A Place in the Sun, was met with a wealth of support and well wishes when he made his terminal cancer diagnosis public last year. He was given the devastating lung cancer prognosis back in August 2020, despite suffering no common signs or symptoms. The disease has since spread to his brain, with Jonnie, 49, now facing up to the heart-breaking realisation that he could have just months to live.
Jonnie, Jess and the couple's three children, Rex, three, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac live on Tyneside, having moved to be closer to her family. They have fallen in love with the area, taking trips to the coat, having meals at local restaurants and Jonnie even having a trip to Newcastle's St James' Park, albeit to see is beloved Spurs trounced 6-1 by the Magpies. Sharing a photo of the SJP pitch from his seat in the Spurs end, he wrote: "Pulled myself out my sickbed for this. It’s embarrassing!"

Jonnie and Jess have this week spoken to Hello! Magazine. about his cancer battle and family life, with Jonnie previously revealing that the children don't know about his terminal diagnosis. Jessica explained: "All the boys gravitate to him when they want to show off and get his attention. They're aware that Jonnie needs his rest and can't always jump up and play football for hours, but they're more than happy snuggled up on the sofa, watching a movie.
She added: "Story time is a big thing at bedtime and that is something I know Jonnie treasures with them."
Jonnie has spoken about how he has sorted three 'very special' gifts for each of his sons for when they turn 18, admitted that it 'pained him' to think his two youngest children might to remember him.
