Joni Mitchell has become a US citizen after a journey that began 62 years ago, renewing interest in the Canadian-born singer-songwriter's long connection with America. The milestone has also brought attention to her former beachfront home in Malibu, California, which was originally listed for $26.995 million. Located in the exclusive Malibu Colony community, the five-bedroom property features direct Pacific Ocean access, expansive sea views and a rare pool and spa that would be difficult to recreate under today's coastal regulations. Its asking price was reduced to $24.9 million in August 2026.
Mitchell’s new citizenship does not itself change the home's ownership or sale status, rather offers an opportunity to revisit the property’s history and to understand what makes it stand out in Malibu’s luxury real-estate market.
