Jonathan Ross reveals closeted Hollywood star once 'asked him on a date'

A closeted Hollywood movie star surprised Jonathan Ross by propositioning him.

Film buff Jonathan says he was surprised, but flattered, when the actor came on to him after they had bonded over European cinema.

He says of the mystery star: “I think he was someone who always swung in each direction, but Hollywood being what it was, he wasn’t out there.

“He asked me on a date because we were discussing Pedro Almodovar – a brilliant director, and an openly gay man. And I think it was my love and knowledge of foreign films, particular his genre, his canon of work, that made him think I was up for a little bit of action.

"Maybe I should have gone. It would have been a marvellous anecdote, and it might have been a nice evening out.”

Jonathan was speaking to Alan Carr on the comedian’s Life’s A Beach podcast. Alan said of the unnamed star: “I never would have had him on the gay list.”

Alan also revealed that, according to Jonathan’s mum, he and Wossy are related – to each other as well as to Paul Gascoigne.

Rockers Sea Power

Rockers Sea Power are No. 1 in the midweek album charts - but just 1000 copies are separating the Top 5.

The group were formerly called British Sea Power, but controversially ditched the “British” earlier this year, explaining they wanted to distance themselves from “isolationist, antagonistic nationalism”.

“We hadn’t had any Joy Division issues,” says the group’s Scott Wilkinson. “We weren’t fighting off any Nazis down the front row.

But the move sparked a backlash, which he tells NME reinforced their decision: “There’s some pretty dark comments, and you’d look at the people making them and it’s like, ‘God, yeah, I do want to be distanced from people like you – 100 per cent.”
