In 2022, Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was the host of the ESPYs. Every year, the prestigious awards ceremony elects a new host. The event is always enjoyable and often creates viral moments on social media, such as LeBron James confirming he will return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
On July 18, a clip of an impromptu Jonathan Kuminga interview surfaced on social media. During the discussion, the Warriors forward is asked who he would like to see host next year’s award ceremony. Kuminga chose Klay Thompson, noting how the sharpshooting guard is a ‘funny person’ without trying to be funny.
“I was really proud to see Steph host it last year, but I would love to see Klay do it,” Kuminga said. “Klay doesn’t mean to be funny, he’s just a funny person. You just gotta really meet him in person, you gotta be around him like every single day he’s a different person.”
Thompson has a reputation for being one of the funnier personalities in the NBA. There are countless compilation videos on the internet showing multiple comedic moments involving Thompson, with most of them deemed as him being ‘accidentally funny.’
"I would love to see Klay do it, definitely. Klay don't mean to be funny, he's just a funny person."

Should Klay do it for next year? 🤔

After recovering from a 941-day absence due to an Achilles tendon injury after returning to training from a torn ACL, Thompson has shown signs of being back to his best. In 69 regular-season games for the Warriors, Thompson averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, yet it was his 3-point shooting that reminded everyone of why he is the second ‘Splash Brother,’ as he shot 41.2% from deep.
Hopefully, another good season with the Warriors will ensure Thompson gets recognized at the ESPYs one way or another next year.
