Sainsbury's has sold the site of one of its old supermarkets in Birmingham. The land next to the A38 in Selly Oak housed one of its stores until 2018 when a brand new supermarket was opened on the nearby Selly Oak Shopping Park.
The site has been acquired in an undisclosed deal by Galliard Apsley Partnership, a joint venture between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital.
The new owners are now preparing plans for the land which covers 3.4 acres and comprises the former Sainsbury's unit, car park and servicing facilities.
A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We're very proud of our history of serving and helping the community in Selly Oak and we look forward to seeing the new owners' proposals for our former store in the coming months."
A spokesperson for Galliard Homes said: "We are delighted and excited to have acquired this site from Sainsbury's.
"We look forward to working with the local community to revitalise it with a refreshed residential and retail provision and improved public realm."
This is the latest project in Birmingham led by Galliard Apsley Partnership.
Its other schemes include the Soho Wharf housing estate in Ladywood, Timber Yard apartments near the Hippodrome theatre and the residential and commercial St Paul's Quarter in the Jewellery Quarter among others.
