People have been living on The Macallan Estate in north east Scotland for a very long time – the discovery of Mesolithic tools confirm a human presence here up to 11,000 years ago, just a few millennia after the retreat of Scotland’s landscape-shaping glaciers.
There’s been a farm here since the 16th century, and by 1824, our founder, barley farmer and teacher Alexander Reid, had secured one of Scotland’s first licenses to open the Elchies distillery, comprising two stills in a wooden shed.
