It will be extremely weird for Los Angeles Rams fans to get accustomed to not having Johnny Hekker punting the ball in 2022 after he signed with the Carolina Panthers following his release this offseason. Besides the awkwardness in seeing Hekker in a new uniform, Hekker won’t be wearing No. 6 as a member of the Panthers in the upcoming season.
After the Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield from the Browns, Hekker made a deal with the quarterback for his No. 6 jersey. Mayfield didn’t reveal how much he paid for the number or what the deal was, but Hekker probably got a nice chunk of change.
Baker Mayfield says he’s made a deal with punter Johnny Hekker to get the No. 6 jersey from him.
“Six is a special number to me. It was the number I was given as a walk-on. It symbolizes my story.”

Mayfield preferred to keep wearing No. 6, the number he wore during his collegiate days at Oklahoma and during his tenure with the Browns.
Despite Hekker no longer being employed by the Rams, it’s nice to see that he continues to find ways to win, even if it is in the form of getting something in return to alter his jersey number.
