Johnny Depp waves to fans in Gateshead after winning libel trial against ex Amber Heard

Johnny Depp smiled and waved to fans outside his hotel in Gateshead after joining Jeff Beck's tour full-time, after winning his multi-million dollar US defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star has been in the UK all week, surprising audiences and fans when he joined Beck on stage in Sheffield and at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The actor, who previously collaborated with Beck on the 2020 track Isolation, will now perform in Gateshead, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and York.

Depp was seen leaving the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead where he is staying with his entourage and arrived at the Sage ahead of his performance at the venue.

The Hollywood actor was shielded by security as he left a back entrance, where he was taken the short distance to the Sage in a silver people carrier.

Eager fans rushed after the actor after he emerged from the vehicle, where he turned and waved to the crowd.

Despite cries of "Johnny" as he entered the music venue, Depp did not stop for selfies or to sign autographs.

Schoolgirl Leah Thompson, 16, managed to film a short clip of him arriving and said: "I am a massive Johnny Depp fan.

"I was waiting at a side entrance for him and then all of a sudden we saw a car.

"It turned left and I ran after it as fast as I could. I managed to see him get out of the car, and wave at his fans.

"I have been following the Johnny Depp trial closely and am so glad he got the result he deserved.

"This means the absolute world to me. I am over the moon."

Depp sued Aquaman star Heard for $50million over a 2018 op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post, titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

Leading reputation management lawyer Mark Stephens has said he feels the actor and Heard have both created “indelible stains” on their careers.

Mr Stephens, a partner at Howard Kennedy and expert in reputation management, who was not involved in the case, told the PA news agency: “I think they both got indelible stains, that’s a major problem for people who make their livings by their reputation.”
