Johnny Depp is set to make his return to the big screen after a four-year hiatus with the upcoming film 'Jeanne du Barry.' The movie, directed by French film star Maïwenn, is a period drama that follows the story of Jeanne Vaubernier, a working-class woman determined to climb the social ladder by using her charms to escape her impoverished life.
In 'Jeanne du Barry,' Depp portrays King Louis XV, who falls in love with Jeanne after being introduced to her by the Comte du Barry, played by Melvil Poupaud. The film made its debut as an Official Selection at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May.
Depp's acting career had been on hold in recent years due to legal proceedings with his ex-wife Amber Heard. His last film appearance was in the 2020 indie drama 'Minamata,' where he portrayed real-life war photojournalist W. Eugene Smith.
During his time away from the big screen, Depp has been involved in various creative projects. He is a member of the rock band Hollywood Vampires, which he co-founded in 2012 with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. The band has released two studio albums and a concert album, showcasing Depp's musical talents.
Aside from music, Depp has also ventured into voice acting for animated series such as 'Puffins' and its spin-off 'Puffins Impossible.' He is set to reprise his role as Johnny Puff in the upcoming animated feature 'Johnny Puff: Secret Mission.'
