Johnny Depp has launched a TikTok account following his high-profile victory over ex-wife Amber Heard in their defamation trial.

The 58-year-old actor has amassed 2.5 million followers since joining the popular video-sharing app on Monday.

Despite the huge following, the Pirates of The Caribbean star is yet to post his first TikTok video.

It comes after the actor was awarded more than £12million in damages after he sued Heard over an article she wrote about domestic violence.

He had sought £40million in damages from Heard, 36. The seven-person jury unanimously found her claims were "false" and she acted with "actual malice".

Heard countersued Depp for £80million - claiming her reputation had been ruined by the suggestion her abuse allegations were a hoax.

The jury found one point of her claim valid and awarded her damages of £1.6million.

The case centred around a piece Heard wrote for the Washington Post titled: "I spoke up against sexual violence - and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change."

Depp was not named but his lawyers argued it falsely implied he physically and sexually abused Heard during their five-year relationship.

The actor was not in court for the verdict as he was performing in the UK with musician Jeff Beck.

He was in The Bridge Tavern in Newcastle shortly before the verdict was announced.

Following his win, the father-of-two said: "The jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled. The best is yet to come and a new chapter has begun."

After the verdict, Heard said: "The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.

"I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously."

Depp and Heard married in 2015 but she filed for divorce just a year later. He previously lost a UK libel case against The Sun after it described him as a "wife beater".
