Former Chelsea captain John Terry has sent a three-word message to ex-teammate Frank Lampard on his return to the club as caretaker manager for the season. The latter previously took charge of the Blues from 2019 to 2021, with unfinished business to resolve before the end of the campaign.
Lampard takes over from Graham Potter, who had struggled after taking over from the highly popular Thomas Tuchel before him. After a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, the decision to replace the underperforming boss was made as the search for a new head coach began once again.
"No, but I think the role and the explanation of my role speaks for itself in the period that I'm here for," caretaker boss Lampard said on whether he was told that the role was strictly for the season. "On that term, I'm not getting anywhere ahead of myself. I want to do the best possible role that I can impact the club in the best way in this period. After that, we'll see what happens."

Plenty of messages have come flooding in over the decision, one of which from former teammate and captain Terry. He took to Twitter to wish luck to Lampard, saying: "Good Luck mate." It could also hint at a decision over his future, given rumours spreading over a potential coaching role in the setup.
The new caretaker was asked if he knew which staff he'd have on board, but replied: "I can't at this point." It remains to be seen if Terry will be a part of it, having revealed on Stephen Hendry's Cue tips YouTube channel that he'd only go back into management and coaching if it were with the Blues.
He said: "The only job I'd come out of retirement for would be the Chelsea job. To be involved in some capacity in the first team. I love my role at the minute with a bit of work with the younger players. Having been through that process myself I'm passing on loads of knowledge to them so I'm having conversations with them but I enjoy my golf.
"I want to play a bit of golf, have a bit of family time as well. The reason that I left Villa, I've not really said anywhere, I had to come back home and be with family to be there and support them. I see myself as a coach in the long-term, I enjoyed the coaching side of it but I have to say there's better coaches than me. I went for a couple of jobs when I left, didn't get those and got a bit deflated."
