John Stones sends Erling Haaland warning to Man City teammates after win vs Wolves

Manchester City defender John Stones has warned his teammates that they cannot always rely on Erling Haaland after the Norwegian scored a hat-trick in their win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Haaland's treble on Sunday was his fourth of the campaign and condemned Wolves to defeat. A header in the 40th minute got the ball rolling for the 22-year-old.

He doubled his side's lead from the penalty spot in the second period. The City talisman then notched his third following a Jose Sa mistake to seal the three points.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Stones was quick to warn his teammates that they all need to be chipping in with goals. He said: "That's his quality.

"I'm so pleased for him again. He just keeps coming up with the goals.

"We have had a lot of good goals from different players coming off the bench, starting the games. Riyad [Mahrez] the other night.

"I don't want to just put it all on him. We all need to chip and we are doing but when he scores three in a game it's difficult."

When asked if his teammate would be happy with being substituted after scoring a hat-trick, Stones added: "Knowing Haaland as a person and how he is at the training ground and in training [he will be happy], I think that's why we've been so successful over the years. Haaland scored three goals, we kept a clean sheet.

"Julian [Alvarez], what a replacement to come on the pitch." Pep Guardiola was critical of City and the fans after the victory over Tottenham Hotspur but the England defender was adamant that he had not seen the comments made by his boss.

"I didn't see the comments from Pep," he said. "But I knew what he said to us at half-time and what he wants from us and what he knows we can do and us as players when you are not playing as well as you can and in the second half we came out and showed it but it was too late [even though] we got the win.

"Today we knew that we had to do that from the off and we did. The patience and desire was there and we were scoring goals and creating chances. Obviously a clean sheet is massive now."
