John Nott death: Former Tory defence secretary walks out of BBC interview in resurfaced clip

This is the moment former Conservative defence secretary John Nott walks out of a BBC interview during a Tory party conference.

The clip, from October 1982, has resurfaced following Sir John’s death at the age of 92, announced by his daughter Sasha Swire on Wednesday (6 November).

Sir John, who was Margaret Thatcher’s defence secretary when the Falklands Island were invaded in 1982, was interviewed by BBC broadcaster Robin Day during the Tory party conference and repeatedly asked about cuts to the navy budget.

After Day branded him a “here today, gone tomorrow politician”, Sir John removed his microphone, called the interview “ridiculous” and walked away.
