John McGinn will have caught the eye of Manchester United fans this lunchtime as he played an important role in Aston Villa's victory at Everton.
Emi Buendia is likely to gain the headlines post-match as his header from a Lucas Digne corner was the difference for the visitors.
Despite his backseat role for Villa, McGinn showed United fans just what they could expect from him in the 90 minutes on Merseyside.
His effort to regain the ball from the opposition was outstanding while his distribution to the likes of Buendia and Phillipe Coutinho helped secure the three points for Steven Gerrard's men.
Central midfield has been a problem position at Old Trafford for some time now with Fred and McTominay's inconsistency an issue, while Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek's futures increasingly looking like they are elsewhere.
McGinn has been touted as a possible solution, although Villa boss Steven Gerrard issued a hands-off warning to any potential suitors.
Speaking on Friday, Gerrard said: "We are certainly not a club that is looking to sell. Our intention is to keep John McGinn here.
"We don’t want to be a selling club unless there is a situation, as with [Jack] Grealish [to Manchester City], which works itself out if you like.
"We want [McGinn] to remain a Villa player and we can’t be any clearer on that. We love the player, we love the human being and we want to help him.
"We certainly see it as a compliment when our best players, or any of our players, are linked with big moves away. I think it shows they are playing at a consistent level."
