The legendary musician John Mayer revealed that one of his biggest inspirations was New York Mets superstar Francisco Lindor.
Mayer, who has won seven Grammy awards during his music career and is also the frontman of Dead & Company, shared a touching tribute to the New York shortstop for his effort during the MLB playoffs.
According to Mayer, the way that Lindor played during the postseason was a huge reason he has kept performing at such a high level as well. He was able to compare New York’s grueling playoff run to his own struggles playing at The Sphere in Las Vegas, including insights into how he recovered from an injury of his own.
Here is more from Mayer:
“If I had one secret of success to share with you, it’s to pick someone in life you admire and run alongside them. You don’t have to know them to decide that if they can keep going, you can keep going. And the Mets kept going.
I hope that in the next few days, after the disappointment has had its say, that Francisco and the entire team realizes that what they accomplished was enough. Their monumental run was enough to unify a city, bring together families, friends, and remind us all that above all else, nothing is more powerful a force in achieving success than effort. A boring word, “effort.” But it’s the only chance of good becoming great and that greatness taking hold for the long run.”
Mayer has worn a Lindor shirt on stage during performances in the past:
He has also supported the Mets at Dodger Stadium and at Citi Field against the Red Sox.
Mayer is originally from Connecticut but his family roots for New York.
