John Marsden, Beloved Author Of The ‘Tomorrow, When The War Began’ Series, Dies Age 74

Beloved Australian author John Marsden, best known for creating the Tomorrow series, has died aged 74.

On Wednesday evening, ABC News broke the news that Marsden — who wrote more than 40 novels in his career, including the Tomorrow, When The War Began series, — had died.

Throughout his career, Marsden was praised for his work through major awards and received worldwide praise for his contributions to children’s and adult fiction.

In 2006, Marsden was awarded the Lloyd O’Neil Award for his contribution for Australian publishing, and in 2015 he won the Christina Stead Award for Best Novel for his book, South of Darkness.

Throughout his lifetime, the Australian author also founded two schools, one in Romsey and another in Macedon, both in regional Victoria.

“Running a school is probably the most intense and complicated job I’ve had in my life. The only thing I can compare it to is when I worked in the emergency department at Sydney Hospital when I was about 19,” he told the ABC back in 2018.

One of the biggest highlights of Marsden’s career was in 2010 when his book Tomorrow, When The War Began was adapted into a movie.

We’ll truly miss all the stories and contributions you’ve made to Aussie publishing. RIP John Marsden.
