Cornish fashion brand Celtic & Co has been selected for an in-store partnership with high street giant John Lewis.
The sustainable clothing retailer’s products have now been launched at two of the department store chain’s outlets, including in Cambridge and the Peter Jones store on Sloane Square in London.
The deal marks the first time the label has had a physical presence in a high street department store.
The company, which was founded in 1990 by husband-and-wife team Nick and Kath Whitworth, hailed 2021 as its best year to date, when it reported a 75% increase in sales to £15.5m as the Covid lockdowns fuelled online shopping and the demand for comfortable clothing.
Celtic & Co first showcased its clothing through John Lewis in October 2020 with an online launch of a range of its slippers. Last summer it launched a further collection of garments and footwear via the employee-owned firm’s website.
Managing director James Williams said the business' “strong” online sales had proven it was a great fit for the brand’s customers.
Mr Williams said: “This is a massive step for us as a brand in being able to reach new customers and promote the quality of our products. Always created using natural materials, there’ll be many tangible benefits of shoppers being able to feel the different textures of the materials we use.”
Celtic & Co employs around 90 permanent members of staff across two sites, with head offices at Indian Queens and its factory in Newquay.
Earlier this year the company joined a campaign endorsed by Prince Charles to raise awareness of the part sheep play in the environment.
