John Henry breaks silence on Liverpool sale amid Man Utd takeover bids and Tottenham rumours

Liverpool owner John Henry has broken his silence over a potential sale of Liverpool in the coming weeks and months amid links over new investment at the club. It comes as a changing landscape at the top of football continues to pan out, with new money entering the game.

Newcastle were bought out by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia before Chelsea then underwent a takeover last year that was forced following sanctions against former owner Roman Abramovich by the UK Government in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A US consortium between Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in a rocky year that has seen plenty of action and scrutiny over their running of the Blues.

Over half-a-billion-pounds has been spent in the Premier League by the Blues new owners and while the club are languishing in mid-table, the investment and direction is clear. They aren't the only side that may see further external investment as Manchester United received bids for a potential takeover from the Glazer family.

Tottenham have also been linked with a potential takeover, with reports of a £3.1billion offer from Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najaf. It shows a huge influx of new money into football as the money spent in the Premier League inflates ever further, having outspent every other major league in the past few windows.

There have also been questions over the source of the money being invested at the head of the game, with questions over state ownership, sportswashing and owners that may cause harm to the club. One of those that has also been linked with a takeover are Liverpool.

The Reds have often outperformed their transfer spend in recent years, but the need for some further spending is clear, though John Henry has responded to talks over a sale. He told the Boston Sports Journal: "Are we selling LFC? No." But he did discuss other routes of investment. "Are we talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale."

It remains to be seen how that will happen for the Reds, however it further demonstrates the changing landscape of football at the very top.
