John Cena shamed for 'grossly inappropriate' tweet as he 'uses Ukraine to plug show'

John Cena has been furiously slammed by fans after he appeared to use Russia ’s invasion of Ukraine to promote his new Peacemaker TV show.

The WWE icon, 44, has faced intense criticism over his ‘tone deaf’ tweet which referenced the titular character from his HBO series.

The famous character appeared in James Gunn’s 2021 film ‘The Suicide Squad’ and is known for trying to make peace at all times.

John decided to reference the character just hours after the tragic news broke that Russia was invading Ukraine as innocent civilians feared 'World War III' had begun.

"If I could somehow summon the powers of a real life #Peacemaker, I think this would be a great time to do so," the actor tweeted.

Naturally, John's seemingly insensitive tweet attracted thousands of negative responses as fans blasted the star for trying to 'promote' his new show at such a horrific time.

One person responded: "‘I’m just saying there is never an appropriate moment to say this, especially now."

"Delete this now. Innocent people are dying and you are making light of the situation. Tone deaf as always," another fumed.

"Wow, just when I thought Hollywood couldn't get any darker. This is so wrong of you," someone else insisted.

Another Twitter user called out John for using a hashtag to promote his show.

"Great time to hashtag your show for trending purposes. Very insensitive don’t you think," they raged.

"I hope you didn’t mean to come off as disrespectful by using this to promote your show . You don’t have the powers of peacemaker but you do have the power of money and status. Please donate to help Ukraine or spread the link to donate," someone else suggested.

Elsewhere, other fans defended John's tweet.

"In his own way, I think this was meant as good and helpful. Give him a break," one of John's admirers defended.

"He meant this in a nice way," another echoed.

John has yet to respond to the criticism.
