Joey Chestnut leaves Detroit Pistons shook after setting chicken wings record in locker room

The world’s most formidable competitive eater, Joey Chestnut, dropped the jaws of the Detroit Pistons squad after devouring 38 chicken wings in three minutes and 13 seconds.

Grub-guzzler Chestnut “holds 55 World Records across 55 disciplines”, according to Major League Eating, declaring it “a World Record of World Records”. Among those records is 182 chicken wings in 30 minutes.

But this time, Chestnut decided to test his wing-eating ability in three minutes 13 seconds. The numbers 313, of course, have sentimental value to Detroit and NBA outfit, the Pistons. And in the time set, “the greatest eater in history” stripped 38 wings of its meat, leaving Pistons squad members in disbelief.

Guard Jared Rhoden was starstruck, while center James Wiseman’s eyes grew with every one of Chestnut’s chews. Chants of "Joey, Joey!" could be heard as the pile of bones grew taller.

But Chestnut’s wing consumption was just a warm up. Chestnut, the 15-time champion of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, and two Pistons employees took on a coney dog-eating challenge during the third quarter of the Pistons' 118-105 loss against the Miami Heat at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night.

And in 60 seconds, Chestnut, as well as the two Pistons employees, managed to scoff 11 coney dogs. Chestnut ate seven of the 11 hot dogs complete with chilli, onion and mustard to raise 25,000 towards Forgotten Harvest.

Chestnut also made an appearance at Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan on Monday alongside Pistons forward Marvin Bagley III.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, their regular season has been far from thrilling, losing 63 times while winning just 16 games. They have just three games left of the regular season, with clashes against the Brooklyn Nets, the Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Bulls coming up.

In fact, the NBA franchise clinched the NBA's worst regular-season record. But their season woes have seen them obtain the No. 1 pre draft lottery position. The Pistons have a 14 per cent chance to land the No.1 overall selection, which will likely be used to select 7ft3in French superstar, and potential generational talent, Victor Wembanyama.
