Joey Barton to stand trial after pleading not guilty to assault near golf club

  • Former Premier League footballer Joey Barton has denied assaulting a man outside a golf club.
  • Barton appeared via videolink from HMP Liverpool at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, pleading not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Kevin Lynch, 51.
  • The alleged incident occurred on 8 March at Fairway, Huyton, near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.
  • His co-defendant, Gary O’Grady, 50, did not enter a plea to the charge.
  • A trial date has been set for 1 September, with the case expected to last seven days, and Barton has been remanded in custody.
