There was real worry in the away end at Turf Moor when Joelinton left the pitch on a stretcher clearly in real pain. With him landing awkwardly inside the first 10 minutes, there were fears it could have been serious but it the player himself has confirmed it is nothing worth worrying about.
It would have been a real blow had it been anything nasty at the very end of a brilliant season for the Brazilian maestro. Such has been his transformation at Newcastle United this season that he was awarded the club’s Player of the Season award.
He really came into his own with his regression into an advanced midfield role rather than the striker role where he spent the majority of his early United career. That is why it will come as a relief that his injury is ‘nothing serious’.

On Monday morning, Joelinton took to his Instagram story to update his followers of his situation. He said: “Thanks to everyone who messaged me! I’m good, it was nothing serious."
Eddie Howe provided a more extensive description of the issue after the victory at Turf Moor.
“It didn’t look good. I could see by the way he went down, I thought ‘this could be serious’,” said the United boss on Sunday. "Apparently, it’s a deep laceration. I think the doctor, initially when he saw him, could see part of his bone, so I think it was quite deep.
“We knew immediately we had to withdraw him, but he’s in good spirits in the dressing room. He had a boot on, and said he was OK, so that’s great news.”
However his recovery from the injury will look, it seems as though Joelinton will be back in action well before the United players will be back for pre-season. Howe will want him available as soon as possible as he will once again be a key fixture in the middle of the park at St James’ Park next term.
