Joelinton was controversially sent off against Benfica in the Eusebio Cup final as tempers flared in Lisbon tonight.
Having already been booked for a foul the referee reached for the red card after a foul on Benfica youngster Florentino.
The Newcastle star was furious with the decision and made his feelings known to the fourth official.
The incident then sparked an angry coming together of Newcastle substitutes and coaching staff with the referee making his way over to calm things down.
A Benfica supporter then tried to make his way down to the Newcastle bench to hurl abuse at the Toon bench. TV replays around the stadium showed numerous replays of Joelinton's tackle and in slow motion it was easy to see why referee Nuno Almieda opted to send him for an early bath.
