Joel Embiid, a seven-time NBA All-Star, has inked a lucrative three-year contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, ensuring his presence with the team until 2029. The deal, valued at $193 million, includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.

Embiid himself revealed the news by sharing a photo on Instagram showing him signing the contract alongside team owner Josh Harris. In his post, Embiid expressed his commitment to Philadelphia, stating, 'Philadelphia is home. I want to be here the rest of my career. I love this community and everything you've given me and my family. There is a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship and I think we're just getting started.' He concluded with the iconic 76ers hashtag, '#trusttheprocess.'

The 27-year-old center was originally drafted by the 76ers as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. Throughout his career, Embiid has amassed an impressive list of accolades, including NBA MVP honors, a gold medal from the recent Olympics with Team USA, five All-NBA Team selections, seven consecutive All-Star appearances from 2017 to 2024, three All-Defensive Team nods, and two NBA scoring titles.

Team owner Josh Harris praised Embiid's contributions to the franchise, labeling him as one of the greatest players in Sixers history and potentially one of the best in NBA history. Harris emphasized Embiid's importance to the team's pursuit of another NBA Championship and expressed gratitude for the player's continued commitment to the organization.

Embiid's elite skills as a two-way player, coupled with his unique combination of size, strength, and athleticism, have solidified his status as a key asset for the 76ers. The extension signifies a long-term partnership between Embiid and the team, with both parties aiming for continued success on the court.
