Joe Willock’s dream of Wembley is still alive - after positive news emerged from a scan on his hamstring this week. Willock limped off with a muscular injury in the 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth last weekend and will miss the clash with Liverpool at St James’ Park on Saturday night.
His absence against the Reds should give him the opportunity to rest up this weekend and leave the door open to play in the Carabao Cup final.
Howe said today: “I think he will be doubtful tomorrow. I don’t think it’s a big injury at all, it’s very minor, he complained about his hamstring. Definitely there is a chance of playing (at Wembley).”

Howe was also asked about Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin who were also withdrawn with injuries against Bournemouth. Howe said: “They have been back training and they are fine.”
The Newcastle boss must also make a call on Callum Wilson ahead of the clash with the Reds. A hamstring injury ruled him out at Bournemouth last week.
He said: “Callum has done well. We said at the time it is a very minor complaint for him, he hasn’t trained yet. We hope he trains today.”
Left-back Matt Targett has also returned to training after a heel injury. Howe added: “He’s made a welcome return to training.
“It’s the first steps for him. I won’t push him this weekend but there are good signs for him he is nearing a comeback.”
