There were lots of excited children at a North East primary school as they received a visit from a special guest.
Children from Cheviot Primary School, in Newbiggin Hall, clapped and cheered and some even squealed with excitement as fitness coach Joe Wicks jogged into their playground to deliver a PE lesson on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old, best known for his virtual workouts during the Covid pandemic, is currently on a week-long tour of the country, delivering fitness classes and advice to school pupils.
He aims to meet and work out with over 10,000 pupils on his tour, which started on Monday in Glasgow and end in the south of England on Friday.
Joe said: "I'm basically travelling from Glasgow right down to the south of England, visiting 12 schools and doing an amazing outdoor workout, talking about the importance of exercise for our physical and mental health and it really is the best time of year. It's my favourite thing to do and I love it."
The children were joined by parents and staff as they completed a 30 minute workout, which involved 35 second bursts of activity before taking a short rest and moving onto the next exercise.
Joe added: "What I love is seeing the children come out. They might be a little bit sleepy and a little bit grumpy, but by the time they've finished the workout they're energised, they're smiling and they can just connect the dots between how they feel at the end of an exercise."
At the end of the session, Joe reminded the children to get out into the garden or do a quick workout if they're having a bad day. And then he was off to the next school - George Stephenson High School, in Killingworth - to continue to spread the message.
Following the visit, staff at the North Tyneside secondary school took to social media to thank Joe for his time.
In a post on Twitter, which was shared by Joe, they wrote: "Wow, what a brilliant morning. Huge thanks to @thebodycoach for joining on his UK Schools Tour and delivering a 30 minute workout to all our wonderful students and staff. It really was a day to remember! Huge thank you to Mrs Patrick for organising this - you are awesome!"
