Joe Swash slammed for 'terrible' I'm A Celebrity move as they ask 'why'

Joe Swash's first big decision on I'm A Celebrity... South Africa has come under fire from some viewers as the branded it 'terrible'. The former EastEnders star made his first appearance in camp during Wednesday night's episode alongside fellow former BBC One soap star Dean Gaffney.

The pair were first seen on screen in the new spin-off show a couple of nights ago as they arrived secretly at Kruger National Park in the South African bush where they were greeted by hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly and immediately faced a Bushtucker trial, described as "one of the most disgusting ever".

The 'Flipping Disgusting' drinking trial saw Joe, 41, and Dean, 45, being made to drink "gruesome concoctions" named after individual campmates in a bid to win treats for them. It involved finishing drinks made of blended cow vagina, maggots, chicken intestines, and testicles.

And it made for such astonishing scenes, show bosses decided to screen their attempts over two nights. Viewers were in stitches as the pair glugged down more disgusting blends on Wednesday night's (May 3) episode of the I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! 'legends' spin-off.

As Joe and Dean gagged and retched their way through the challenge, @MrWayneyB applauded on Twitter: "This. This. This. Once again. Some of the best TV this year!" @LouiseWraith praised: "No wonder you put it on over two nights… my sides hurt ... best drinking trial ever." And @DanielleGerrar4 exclaimed: "Best episode of @imacelebrity ever!!!"

But others were left unimpressed to see more of the stomach-churning scenes and were left feeling sick themselves. The pair eventually made it through the trial and headed to camp to meet their unsuspecting fellow campmates. But it wasn't long before Ant and Dec visit camp in order to tell the celebrities they will no longer work as one camp.

It was revealed that the group will now be split into two 'prides' and go head-to-head to win food. New arrivals Joe and Dean were chosen to be the leaders of each 'pride' and took it in turns to pick the campmates they want.

Former I'm A Celebrity King of the Jungle Joe was first to select his, opting for former Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread, 62. Dean then chose Diversity star Jordan Banjo, 30, first. The last two standing fell on Joe's turn, with him opting for US model Janice Dickinson, 68, over former Coronation Street star Helen, as he said she 'scared him more'.

But 32-year-old Helen then looked awkward, before walking over to join Dean's 'pride'. And viewers spoke out in defence of Helen and criticised Joe's choice. @sophie_duck_ tweeted: "Why are people underestimating Helen, she’s way better than Jordan at challenges #ImACeleb."

@PaulPoeUK said: "That picking was terrible, Joe not picking Helen was a bit of a d**k move. #ImACeleb #imacelebrity." @garrity_angela replied: "His loss, for sure .. Janice won’t do heights like she did..." @misscatxxxx added: "I feel sorry for Helen she smashed her trial but it’s still like they all think she’ll be useless #imaceleb."
