It turns out Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon took a rather big pay cut to stay with the team on his reworked deal.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mixon took $4.39 million less in 2023 and a $4.67 million pay cut next year.
His base salary in 2023 is now $5.51 million, down from roughly $9.4 million. There are incentives that could earn him $2 million per year.
On paper, this means Mixon can likely stick around for the 2024 season, too. More importantly, it means the Bengals saved significant cap space as they gear up to likely get extensions done for Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins very soon, if not others such as Logan Wilson and DJ Reader.
