Joe Lycett and Piers Morgan have added their names to a long list of people who will not be sorry to see Liz Truss leave 10 Downing Street.
Former Good Morning Britain Piers was one of the first to respond to the Prime Minister's resignation earlier today, as he brutally mocked her short reign - after previously telling his 7.9million followers how the embattled politician had turned the United Kingdom into 'a laughing stock'.
Piers wasn't the only celebrity to get political on their social media accounts as the news broke, with comedian Joe Lycett providing a hilarious response to the Prime Minister's resignation and many other stars chiming in with their views too.
Joe , who often pokes fun at the government, sarcastically tweeted Truss directly, writing: "@trussliz omg just heard there’s a leadership election nxt week????? u shud run babe youd be perfect!!!"
The popular star caused chaos last month, when he appeared on Laura Kuenssberg's new BBC show and pretend to be right-wing in a straight-faced ruse.
He said: "You said earlier I’m not left or right. I know there's been criticism in the Mail on Sunday today about lefty liberal wokie comedians on the BBC."
With a straight-face, he announced: "I’m actually very right wing and I love it."
As Laura attempted to get him to drop his persona, she then added: "[Truss] suggested there’s a big package of help coming this week to help people pay their bills."
Joe responded: "Yeah, she was very clear what she said. I think you know exactly what's going to happen. I’m reassured, you’re reassured."
He then turned to fellow guest Emily Thornberry, who was smirking at the joke and asked: "Are you reassured?"
In a statement outside Downing Street on Thursday afternoon, Truss said she cannot deliver the mandate she was elected on by Tory members and had told King Charles she was resigning.
The Conservative Party leader - who beat former Chancellor Rishi Sunak in a leadership election earlier this year - adding that she will remain as prime minister until a successor is chosen.
Just hours before Truss delivered her statement at 1.30pm today, Piers took to Twitter to urge the politician to step down, writing: "You’re making Britain an absolute laughing stock @trussliz - put your country before your pathetic attempt at self-preservation, and resign."
Following Truss' resignation, the TalkTV presenter declared: "It’s over. Liz Truss is resigning and will become shortest-serving Prime Minister in British history. What an absolute shambles."
Ian 'H' Watkins was similarly pleased to see Truss back down, after previously tweeting "F***ing GO! Take the hint! #GeneralElectionNow" earlier today.
The Steps singer called for a general election following Truss' resignation, with left-wing journalist and political commentator Owen Jones declaring: "H speaks for the nation!!!"
One-time Love Island winner Amber Gill made reference to the Daily Star's stunt monitoring if a lettuce would last longer than Truss' time in power, tweeting: "There is no way I would have resigned before a lettuce. Elect the lettuce at this point."
Jedward, who often share their political views on social media, demanded a general election shortly after Truss' speech, tweeting: "After 12 years of Tory f***ery the people deserve a general election!"
