Joe Lycett 'invited back as regular' by BBC's Laura Kuenssberg

Joe Lycett has said Laura Kuenssberg invited him back as a regular on her BBC show - after he famously caused chaos.

Joe, 34, sparked controversy after sarcastically clapping Liz Truss on the Beeb's new political Sunday morning program. But speaking on podcast Chatabix, hosted by comedians David Earl and Joe Wilkinson, he says he was invited back by Kuenssberg.

He said she wants him to be a "semi-regular guest".

Joe said: "After the show, Laura said 'we really enjoyed having you here and we're looking for semi-regulars, so if you're up for coming on again we'd love to have you. And all of her producers said the exact same thing!".

The Great British Sewing Bee presenter also recalled: "Laura said her heart dropped when I applauded - because she didn't know what I was going to do, but then she was fine with it. She did ask me not to applaud Rishi Sunak - that was because after she'd interviewed him, she had to walk somewhere else, and she wasn't walking over to the panel, so she said it won't work.

"I heeded that - it wasn't Rishi I was there to applaud anyway, it was Liz Truss."

In the podcast, Joe admitted the entire experience was "an uncomfortable" one - particularly once the show had finished and the media reaction had not yet blown up.

He said: "There's like this weird breakfast they do afterward the show in the BBC canteen, and I was sat next to Laura Kuenssberg, and then next to her was Rishi Sunak, and then opposite me was Emily Thornberry and Cleo Watson. It was very surreal. And the chairman of the BBC was there! A very odd group of people."

He added: "I didn't look Rishi Sunak in the eye because I was like, 'I'll get so angry'."
