Joe Lycett gives Laura Kuenssberg bizarre gift after 'genius' BBC show appearance

The comedian had viewers in stitches during his appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg alongside No 10 staffer Cleo Watson and Labour's Emily Thornberry.

Joe, 34, took to social media to share a snap of himself posing with the presenter as he gifted her with a painting of political journalist Robert Peston, who hosts his own political show, in prison.

The star captioned the post: "Happy to present Laura Kuenssberg with a gift for her first show, something I knew she’d love - an original painting of Robert Peston in jail."

In the snap, Joe beamed with joy as he proudly held up the photo while standing next to the presenter.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old Laura pointed at the bizarre painting as she looked at the camera.

Following the interview, he screamed out a "You smashed it, Liz" off-screen.

Joe went on to take over the interview with his incredible humour and quick wit.

He sarcastically shared his thoughts about Liz and the Conservative government and insisted that he was 'extremely right-wing'.

Speaking about his opinion on the interview, he said: "You said earlier I’m not left or right. I know there's been criticism in the Mail on Sunday today about leftie liberal wokie comedians on the BBC.

"I’m actually very right-wing and I love it. I thought she gave great clear answers. I know exactly what she's up to.”

Laura interrupted the comedian and told him 'it's a serious point' before he added: "I’m not being sarcastic."

The presenter then discussed Liz's plans for the rise in energy costs.

"She said that there was a big package of help coming this week for people to help pay their bills," she said.

Joe told her: "Yeah, she was very clear what she said. I think you know exactly what's going to happen. I’m reassured, you’re reassured."

To add to his great segment, he turned to Emily, who was amused by the entire situation, and asked: "Are you reassured?"

Fans took to social media to compliment him for being 'f***ing sensational' in his response to Liz Truss' promises if she becomes prime minister.

"This is f***ing sensational," one user said while another added: "Absolutely genius. Genuinely genius performance."

One said: "Haha what a booking for the first week of a new “serious politics” show," along with a few laughing emojis.

"Kuenssberg not having a clue how to handle the situation because he’s technically not saying anything she can editorially disagree with is just superb," an impressed user added.
