Joe Fournier appeals KSI elbow as official review into controversial knockout begins

Joe Fournier has officially appealed his knockout defeat to KSI, after replays showed he was dropped by an elbow.

The incident happened during the main event of Misfits 007 at Wembley Arena, as Fournier, who lost to friend David Haye in an exhibition bout two years ago but is unbeaten in his ten professional bouts, took to the ring against YouTube star KSI.

The fight was waved off in the second round after Fournier was knocked down, with the 40-year-old staggered by an initial shot before hitting the canvas after being caught by an elbow as KSI tried to throw a right hook.

KSI squared off with Tommy Fury after his win to further suggest that the pair will fight next, with a rematch against Fournier unlikely despite a review into the result and the potential that it is ruled as a no contest by the PBA, who commissioned the bout.

“We can confirm that we have received a request from Mr Joe Fournier to seek a review/appeal of the decision whereby he was stopped by the referee in the second round of the contest, in favour of KSI,” the PBA told talkSPORT.

“We have invited representations from each contestant and their representatives before the matter is reviewed in line with our rules and procedures.

“We are also seeking legal counsel as to the issues involved to ensure all matters are dealt with properly and fairly while seeking to uphold the integrity of boxing.

“Any decision or otherwise on the matter will be made available to the contestants on or before 4pm GMT Friday 19th May 2023.”
