Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made it clear that, at least early in training camp, he wouldn’t be throwing three days in a row.
Head coach Zac Taylor echoed these precautionary sentiments (as he has for others like Trey Hendrickson, too).
Burrow still practiced with the team on Friday after throwing the prior two days full force.
So…he lobbed 20-plus punts under the supervision of special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons instead.
No word, yet anyway, on if this is an actual wrinkle that might come into rare, niche play in certain spots of the field, or if it’s just a way to fill the time.
Either way, the footage, courtesy of Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, is pretty funny:
What kind of a day is it going to be for Joe Burrow today (scheduled day off from throwing)?
Well, he’s currently practicing pooch punts. pic.twitter.com/AIotBfeOFP
