A common theme around the injury recovery of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been the idea that, while the calf injury was a setback, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the ruptured appendix one summer ago.
Burrow seemed to nod to that idea during a meeting with reporters, saying this is the best he’s ever felt as a pro going into a Week 1.

Much different than last year when I was just trying to get back to full strength and full health. I feel much better going into Week 1 this year.”
Burrow has been steadily ramping up since the injury, culminating in his full participation in practice this week as the Bengals get ready to take on the Cleveland Browns.
Compared to the hospitalization and dramatic weight loss that came with the appendix issue last year, the rookie summer derailed by COVID and the knee recovery the year after, this certainly seems like the best situation so far for Burrow.
Granted, everyone would love it if Burrow didn’t miss any time at all, but it’s got to be reassuring to hear how he feels going into the season’s first Battle of Ohio and divisional game.
