Just how healthy is Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow?
Burrow has looked progressively better with his mobility over the last two weeks, yet the lingering nature of calf injuries has made it stressful for onlookers, to say the least.
But from the sounds of a writeup from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Burrow just got through a week in which he was able to do actual sprints for the first time:
Somehow the quarterback has played his way back to health. Calf injuries usually require rest, but Burrow has figured out a schedule of care for his calf that has him almost at 100 percent. Last week against the Cardinals, we saw him climbing the pocket and shuffling his feet, and that 10-yard scramble looked like the old Joe. Though slightly sore this week, he ran sprints in practice for the first time since the injury, according to a team source. Overall, he’s running and moving around more in drills, all without a calf sleeve on his leg.
A brief practice clip from this week showed Burrow taking another step in his movement with the ball, yet another sign he was nearing 100 percent.
This play-while-recovering idea was the strategy from the moment he suffered a setback in Week 2 against the Ravens.
And while fans probably won’t breathe easy until Burrow gets through Week 6 against the Seahawks and then enjoys that bye week, all signs point to his nearing 100 percent health.
