Tucked into a rather by-the-books media session for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow at the start of mandatory workouts was a small discussion about music.
And the small side discussion went viral in a big way once it hit the public.
Burrow didn’t say anything too wild, either — he merely commented on the fact he will listen to pretty much any genre of music…except country.
Plenty of the reactions seemed to agree with that idea, but a louder segment of responses were not amused. Here’s a quick rundown of the commentary, plus widespread reaction to the comments that unexpectedly sparked an outburst on an otherwise normal Tuesday in June during the offseason.

Glad to hear Joe Burrow shares my main two allergies: country and western. https://t.co/yc66fg2oDP

lots of people hating on country music thanks to Joe Burrow but it's actually very simple to enjoy, you just gotta make a Spotify playlist based on Shoulda Been A Cowboy and also block Toby Keith from ever being played

Here’s my guess: Joe Burrow has spent his whole life playing sports constantly. He’s been around radio music and super popular stuff primarily. He figured out he doesn’t vibe with the country stuff. He’s OK with the rest.

Speaking from experience, the problem here is that Joe Burrow is listening to the wrong country music https://t.co/LcbUMnpEzz

I know not to get drawn into this but there is a big difference between a ridiculously cool band like the Turnpike Troubadours and what almost everyone refers to as country music. Shared sounds, different product. Joe Burrow for President.

He’s now my favorite player. Drafting him in fantasy for sure. I can’t stand country music either.

If you grew up in the 740 (like me), you like country music. It’s not a choice. It’s a part of who you are. He’s living in denial. https://t.co/QcsZfQHpWT

Why do the QBs who are a bane to Browns fans have to be so likable? https://t.co/Yp4z7h7ELo
